The VirusBank Platform was making waves recently at ICAR2026, where Dr. Rana Abdelnabi presented groundbreaking work on screening small-molecule libraries against the Monkeypox virus (MPXV, causing Mpox).
In a big screening effort we have tested a 350K diversity library alongside a repurposing library (KURE) to identify drugable targets and potential treatments, respectively. Later in that week, Rana took the stage for an oral presentation sharing even more progress on this critical work.
This is exactly what pandemic preparedness looks like in practice: building comprehensive toolboxes for virus families with epidemic/pandemic potential, sharing knowledge openly, and fostering the kind of collaboration that moves science forward when it matters most.
Proud to see this work (specifically that on orthomyxo-, paramyxo-, and coronaviruses) supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and contributing to a safer, more prepared world.
