Marleen Bosschaerts has been trained as a bioengineer at KU Leuven.
Since her start the Belgian Federal Science Policy (BELSPO) in 1995, she has been active in the management of the BCCM, a Belgian consortium of microbial culture collections. She has been involved in several international initiatives related to the biological resource centres (BRCs), a.o. the work of OECD on BRCs. She represents BCCM as an International Depository Authority in WIPO initiatives concerning the Budapest Treaty on the recognition of the deposit of micro-organisms for patent purposes.
Marleen contributed to the development of MIRRI (Microbial Resource Research Infrastructure), it’s recognition as an ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium) and as a Landmark on the ESFRI roadmap. She’s the Chair of the Assembly of Members of MIRRI-ERIC.
At this moment, Marleen is deputy director of the Research programmes and infrastructure department of BELSPO.
